ADYGHE AUTONOMOUS OBLAST, proper noun. Autonomous oblast of the Soviet Union in the Russian SFSR established on August 24, 1922 and existing until July 3, 1991, when it was elevated to the status of a republic and renamed Republic of Adygea.
